About Us
‘The Naples of the North’ the Victorians proclaimed, our beautiful resort by the sea.
In keeping with this they named their Town Hall, after the romantic Isle of Capri.
Many historians would agree that in the early 1850’s the most prominent building in Llandudno was indeed The Capri.
The very heart of the town at that time was Church Walks and The Capri being so central (and elegant) was deemed ideal for use as The Town Hall from 1854 to 1902 and as The first Magistrates Court in 1856. Here, too, the Llandudno Association for the Prosecution of Felons was formed in 1857 (in the absence of a police force), as a club that offered rewards for information leading to convictions.
The Town Clerk, Mr John Williams who had his office at The Capri was also an agent to the Mostyn family (powerful and influential landowners) and he was largely responsible for negotiating the sale of many land plots for Hotel developments within the town as it transformed from a small mining and farming community to the premier Victorian holiday resort during this period. Our building therefore played a pivotal role in the development of our beautiful resort.
Partners Mark Delahunty and Heather Griffin purchased The Capri in 2001 and began a long, loving and painstaking refurbishment programme intent on retaining as many Victorian features as possible whilst ensuring only the highest standards of comfort and amenities for Guests. They were content only when they achieved one of the first highly commended Four Star and Welcome Host Gold status awards within the resort.
Mark’s previous accomplishments were more than twenty years in Retail Management, achieving numerous Customer Care awards. Mark’s main hobby is his work, cooking and he is also very passionate about music.
Heather’s experience has been in catering, whilst she has also diversified and ran her own domestic cleaning company for ten years receiving many accolades. Heather’s main passion apart from Mark, (annoying him that is) is anything Victorian and is involved with organizing The Llandudno Victorian Extravaganza each May. She is also a very keen gardener and decorator.
Mark and Heather share a great interest in travel and walking in the beautiful North Wales countryside along with Bella the Labrador (Bella just happens to be the official mascot for the Llandudno Victorian Extravaganza).
